Potsdam - UNESCO Creative City of Film
Since 1911/12, when the first film studio was built in Nowawes (today named Babelsberg), Potsdam has been the cradle of film in Germany. UFA, DEFA and international film and TV production companies have shot numerous feature films, documentaries and TV-series here. Directors and producers are attracted to the outstanding film and media infrastructure and the network of competent film professionals and companies in our city, which is located in close proximity to Berlin. Talented students learn all about film-making at the internationally recognized Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, the oldest film university in Germany. The university’s film festival Sehsüchte is by now the biggest student film festival in Europe. Potsdam features the tourist attractions Film Park Babelsberg and the Film Museum. In 2019, Potsdam was designated the first German UNESCO Creative City of Film.
