Potsdam is an island among a chain of lakes of the Havel and a beautifully shaped cultural landscape surrounded by numerous woods. Idyllic lakes and riverways as well as the palaces and gardens make Potsdam and its surroundings a special experience. The federal capital Berlin is located next to the former residence capital of the Prussian Crown.

Over the course of three centuries notable architects, landscape artists, sculptors, painters, craftspeople and the royal building owners created a unique, consummate work of art. Today large parts of it belong to the UNESCO World Heritage.
