This memorial shows the continuity and the change of political persecution in the 20th century like no other place in Potsdam – but also the victory of democracy during the peaceful revolution in 1989/90. The memorial Lindenstrasse is authentic place of memory and remembrance of the victims of political violence during both German dictatorships – and likewise Potsdam’s place of remembrance in overcoming the dictatorship.

Visitors can find out about the historical eras of the memorial in four exhibition modules:

1933 – 1945: Eugenics court / Nazi County Court / Detention center for political prisoners

1945 – 1952: Soviet military tribunal / Central detention center of the Soviet secret service in the State Brandenburg

1952 – 1989: Stasi detention center - Potsdam District

1989 / 1990: Potsdam’s House of Democracy
