The Film Museum Potsdam is the oldest film museum in Germany and is located in the “Marstall”, the historic horse stables of the Prussian kings next to the City Palace. The exhibitions in the film museum were open until March 3, 2013, after which the museum was closed for remediation. Among other work, repair of the fire protection system is being done in order to improve the safety of the museum’s visitors. The renovation will also improve handicapped access, lead to better ventilation in the cinema and change the interior design of the foyer. In autumn 2014, visitors from near and far will have their film museum back – safe and sound.

Despite the closure, the work being conducted in the collections relating to the history of the Babelsberg Film Studio is still progressing. The collections of the Potsdam Film Museum include more than a million photos, motion picture technology, costumes and the estates of famous stars which can be visited on request.
