Babelsberg Palace and Park
The view from the castle park Babelsberg on the lakes Tiefer See and Jungfernsee, the river Havel and the famous Glienicke Bridge is unique. Peter Joseph Lenné and the Prince of Pueckler-Muskau gave the landscape garden its romantic character.
Its center is the Babelsberg Palace. For more than 50 years it was the summer residence of Emperor William I and his wife Augusta of Sachsen-Weimar. In 1833, when he was still a prince, William gave Karl Friedrich Schinkel the commision for this neo-Gothic palace.
After Schinkel’s death in 1841 Ludwig Persius continued the building of the palace and Heinrich Strack in 1845. The ballroom with its canopy of starts and the impressive view are especially appealing.
Other stops during a walk through Babelsberg Park are the Small Palace and the Steam Engine Building alongside the Havel, the Flatow Tower, Court Bower, Marstall and the Sailor House.
